Team Members
M.A. Mort: Currently a PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering at UC Davis. They received a BS in Applied Physics from the California State University, Sacramento, in 2017. Prior to graduate school, they worked for an energy consulting company, ADM Associates, Inc., on the California Energy Commission’s decennial commercial end-use survey. Since their start at UC Davis in 2019, they have collaborated with the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and are currently developing an X-ray imaging device for target diagnostics at the National Ignition Facility (NIF).
Javier Romero: Fulbright scholar from Colombia. Ph.D. Candidate in Electrical and Computer Engineering at UC Davis. Electrical Engineer from the National University of Colombia (2015). Master’s of Engineering in Industrial Automation from the National University of Colombia (2019). Research focuses on flexible microgrids for residential applications. Participates in the Lights for Liberia project, designing educational programs to teach solar energy.
Daniel Narevich: Currently a senior undergraduate student of Electrical Engineering at UC Davis. Interested in solar energy, IC design, and device physics. Previously worked as an Applications Intern at Analog Devices and an Engineering intern at the National Park Service. Currently assisting with the Light for Liberia project.
Camila Nino Francia: Currently a junior undergraduate student from Peru majoring in Computer Science and Engineering at UC Davis, with a minor in Technology Management. Previous participant in the ESEARCH program. Research interests include ML for system optimization, with a focus on predictive modeling and automated diagnostics. Currently working on refining a dynamic data collection and anomaly detection framework for high-vacuum pressure gauges.
