Rick Branner<\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><b> Principal Investigator<\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><b>Research Activities<\/b>:<br \/>\nProfessor Branner performs research in the general area of the design and analysis of Microwave and RF devices, circuits, systems and antennas. His work focuses on realizations found in modern military and commercial systems. This research is motivated by his over 25 years of industrial experience combined with strong theoretical foundations.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Professor Branner completed his Ph.D. at the University of Santa Clara in 1972 subsequent to 3 years study while simultaneously maintaining a full-time position in industry. In 1972 he received an offer for a full-time position at U.C. Davis and subsequently agreed to teach regularly as 50% faculty while retaining his full-time industry position in Sunnyvale, California. This continued each quarter yearly for 15 years until he joined the Department on a full-time basis. During his 26 years of industrial experience, he served as Engineer, Senior Scientist, and Senior Engineering Specialist performing extensive classified Government research with specialties in antennas, RF circuits, RF and communication systems. As a specialist in these areas, Professor Branner was responsible for design of large military systems as antenna and RF system frontend specialist. During this career, Professor Branner had numerous additional responsibilities in Radar systems and analysis. Professor Branner joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1987 on a full-time basis. He has developed extensive laboratories for teaching and his MDASL research group which has been serving UCD RF\/Microwave department performing research in a broad spectrum of RF active and passive devices and now primarily focusing on conformal antenna arrays.
