Nicholas Shrake, who earned his master’s degree in electrical engineering at UC Davis in 2014, is first author on the paper titled “In-Line Measurement of Color and Total Phenolics During Red Wine Fermentations Using a Light-Emitting Diode Sensor”. It has been selected as the best enology paper published that year in the American Journal of Enology and Viticulture.

His co-authors are Rajeevan Amirtharajah and André Knoesen, both in the UC Davis Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering; Charles Brenneman, of the UC Davis Department of Viticulture and Enology; and Roger Boulton, a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, and the Stephen Sinclair Scott Endowed Chair in Enology.
