Professor Stephen O’Driscoll is on leave at Google[x] working on the recently announced Smart Contact Lens Project which hopes to provide an easier method for people to manage their diabetes. The device, Google’s first biomedical device, consists of an ultrathin antenna, wireless integrated circuit and glucose sensor embedded in a contact lens which measure and relay the glucose concentration in tear film. Prof. O’Driscoll led the wireless design and designed some of the integrated circuit. Google[x] hopes to work with partners to provide the glucose measurements to the wearer and their physician.
