About the IEEE Organization

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, or IEEE, is a non-profit professional organization of Electrical Engineers and of people in related fields. Formed in 1963 by the merger of the Institute of Radio Engineers and the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, the IEEE is the world's largest professional orgainization with branches spanning the globe. The IEEE works to promote electrical engineering and its application in advancing global prosperity. To advance these goals, the IEEE takes part in many activities including creating standards for the industry, publishing peer-reviewed journals and organizing professional conferences. Through these endeavors, the IEEE establishes itself as an integral part of the electrical engineering community. For more about the IEEE and its history, visit their main info page here.
