Scavenger Hunt
Feb. 23rd 2008

We were glad that people showed up to play the scavenger hunt. Despite the rain/cloud day, people kept the high and competitive spirit. The day could end up better if it were sunny. However, the day was not a total disaster thanks to David, who bbq under the heavy rain. Anyways, the result of the scavenger hunt is below.

As always, thanks for everyone showing up and the hard works from the officers to make this event fun and enjoyable.





LAN Party With CS Club

A break was given to students in the middle of February this year as the CS club hosts the LAN Party. Many games were played and it was lots of fun. We hope the party was a stress reliever for many of you and hope you guys continue to work hard for the rest of the quarter.

Internship and Career Center Comes Speak

Nice seeing everyone in our first meeting of the 2008 year. Today The Internship and Career Center came in to inform us about the upcoming career fair on Jan. 23rd. I hope everyone learned something and are better prepared for the upcoming fair. Also, sorry for the lack of picture this week. Our camera broke down.

IEEE Soldering Workshop 2007

It was a blast with students participating in our soldering workshop event, hopefully everyone learned something and had fun. I also like to take this chance to thank the people that came into our workshop as volunteers to help and teach soldering to other students.

Prof. Yankelevich came to receive his "Professor of the Year Award", he also came as our guest speaker to talk about nonlinear optics.

BBQ 2007

The long tradition of BBQ has continued in 2007 in this event. It was fun with many professors and students coming out to the courtyard t o chill and chat with us.

Professor Spencer came to our meeting to talk about the senior level design project Natcar as well as "methods of becoming a successful e ngineer". This was our first meeting and many people showed up.

Ice Cream Social

General Meeting with Dr.Arft and 2007-2008 Officer Elections

We invited our recent UCD professor Dr.Arft from SiTime to our general meeting on Wednesday May 23rd. Dr.Arft talked briefly about his company SiTime and the exciting MEMS research and development that they are doing over there. We also held officer elections this day and Dr.Diego Yankelevich was voted as the Professor of the Year. The following people were voted officers for the 2007-2008 school year:

We invited Professor Zhi Ding, from our excellent ECE faculty, to our general meeting on May 9th, 2007 where he gave us a sneak peak at his research in Wireless Communications in his presentation titled "Channel Estimation in Wireless Communications"

IEEE 13th Annual Micromouse Event
April 14, 2007

We celebrated Picnic Day by hosting the 13th Annual Micromouse Competition at 2205 Haring Hall for a whole 2 hours from 12-2pm! There was a lot of excitement as the whole lecture hall was packed! We had arranged for DJs (yes, real ones!) and there was, of course, a plenty of food and drinks for our audience!

E-Week LAN Party!

We celebrating the engineering week by hosting a LAN party along with the CS club. It was an all night event starting at 9pm on Friday the 23th until the next morning on Saturday.

Sandia talks about Cyber Security

We invited Sandia at our general meeting on Feb 7. The guest speaker was Edward B. Talbot (Manager Computer and Network Security Department Sandia National Laboratories Livermore, California) who gave a very enthisiastic powerpoint presentation about the future of cyber security.

Extreme Networks visits our General Meeting

Maxim comes to our General Meeting

We invited Maxim at our general meeting on Nov 8. They gave a very nice presentation about the different types of jobs they have at Maxim. In the end, they were also nice enough to give us a taste of some of their interview questions.

Spring Quarter Soldering Workshop

12th Annual Micro Mouse Competition

The 12th Annual Micro Mouse Competition, held every Picnic Day was a huge success. We had 4 of the 6 competitors finish the course, with the winner "Ratzilla" comming in under four minutes. Check out the photos to see the action.

Maxim Meeting

Three representitives from Maxim came to tell us a little about test engineering and oppertunities at Maxim. Maxim manufactures a wide range of analog integrated circuits used in a wide range technologies. Besides moving to a different room the meeting was very useful and informative.

LAN Party

We held our first IEEE/CS Club LAN party on April 2nd from 11am to 11pm. We had a fairly good turnout considering it was the first such event that both of these clubs had hosted. It was alot of fun and look forward to making this a major event.

Sandia National Labs

Lael Miller joined us at our second general meeting of the quarter. His company has come up with a new and inovating product he is developing and is in deed of new, talented engineers to help his company get started.

Soldering Workshop

We finally had our first soldering workshop of the school year. We had seven groups participate in building a simple metal detector or a model traffic light. No one actaully got their circuit working but it was more important as a learning experience.

Local Industry Visit

The first visit from local industry was from Richard Schuman, Signal Processing Engineer at ACM Systems. ACM Systems is a defence contractor located in Rancho Cordova and specializes in countermeasure and training systems for the department of defense.

Professor Islam Visit

The second of the three visiting speakers this fall quarter was Professor Islam of the Electrical Engineering Department. Professor Islam specializes in nanotechnology and informed our club of some very interesting and new areas of research in the "small stuff" within electrical engineering.

Professor Ding Visit

The first of the three visiting speakers this fall quarter will be Dr. Zhi Ding of the Electrical Engineering Department. Professor Ding specializes in Communications, Signal and Image Processing and is also a fellow of IEEE. He will be speaking on November 2, 2005 where we will have food for all in attendence. More information to come on what his topic will be.

We are now into a whole new year at IEEE with a whole new group of officers that are ready to get right to work. To kick off the new year with our ONLY BBQ of the year. This event will be new and improved compared to last year and we would like all student to come join us.
