Davis Wireless Coverage

EEC173B/ECS152C Mini Project #1, Spring 2005

As part of the class project, students are asked to explore wireless LAN coverage in Davis using GPS receiver and NetStumbler software.

Before

Before the mini project, the wireless access points shown in the wigle.net database (as of April 5, 2005) are mostly along highway 80, as shown in the figure below - this was probably someone scanning as they drove by on the freeway:

After the mapping project was completed, my students found and added to the database a large number of Davis 802.11-based wireless access points (as of May 3, 2005). We are still working on exploring some of the remaining gaps (e.g. South Davis).
