EEC173A/ECS152A: Lab Assignments/Projects
Overview
Lab projects are design-oriented and experimental in nature. You will
be asked to explore various approaches to network design, to choose
between alternatives, and to justify solutions based on performance
and cost/complexity considerations. Project reports should include a
writeup on the goal of the experiment, approach/methodology used, and
discussions on the results.
Topics covered include:
- Network monitoring:learning how to analyze
network behavior using both active/passive measurement tools.
- Network Programminglearning how to modify
and extend applicatoin programs that communicate over the Internet.
- Traffic modeling:learning how to measure ad model Internet
traffic; concept of self-similarity and heavy-tailed distributions.
- Network simulations:learning how to analyze
performance of an architecture, protocol, or algorithm via
simulations; exposure to network simulation tools.
