Dr. Keqin Liu Wins the 2012 Zuhair A. Munir Award

The winner of the 2012 Zuhair A. Munir Award for Best Doctoral Dissertation is Dr. Keqin Liu for his research entitled "On Multi-Armed Bandit in Dynamic Systems". Dr. Liu received his Ph.D. in June 2010. His research was completed under the mentorship of Professor Qing Zhao in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

The announcement letter from Joanna R. Groza, Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research:

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the winners of the 2012 Zuhair A. Munir Award for Best Doctoral Dissertation.

Dr. Seyed Ebrahim Mousavi was selected for his research entitled “Efficient Numerical Integration Schemes in the Partition-of-Unity Finite Element Method,” under the mentorship of Professor Natarajan Sukumar in the Department Civil and Environmental Engineering. Dr. Mousavi received his Ph.D. in June 2011.

Dr. Keqin Liu was also selected for his research entitled “On Multi-Armed Bandit in Dynamic Systems,” under the mentorship of Professor Qing Zhao in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Dr. Liu received his Ph.D. in June 2010.

The College Awards Committee, chaired by Professor John Bolander, made the selections from extremely competitive submissions submitted by the graduate programs. On behalf of Dean Lavernia and myself, I want to extend my congratulations to Dr. Mousavi and Dr. Liu, and to Professors Sukumar and Zhao, and also to express my appreciation to the members of the selection committee for their hard work.

The award will be presented to the recipients during the College of Engineering Awards Ceremony, which will be held at 3 p.m. on June 6, in room 1065 Kemper Hall. A reception will immediately follow.
