Professor Islam Receives 2010 Academic Senate Distinguished Teaching Award

Prof. Saif Islam Professor Saif Islam is one of 3 recipients of this year's Academic Senate Distinguished Teaching Award for undergraduate teaching. The award will be presented at a ceremony in conjunction with other Academic Senate and Academic Federation awards on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 5:30 p.m. in ARC Ballroom A.

Following short tribute was prepared by the Academic Senate Committee:

"Associate Professor Saif Islam is praised for establishing an intellectually challenging environment in the classroom that encourages critical thinking and leads to deep fundamental understanding. He also provides individual attention out of the classroom and often spends long hours in the lab to help students with their research. His mentoring has resulted in co-authoring ten papers and one patent with UC Davis undergraduate students. Previous awards for his research and teaching include the Faculty Early Career Award from the National Science Foundation, the Outstanding Junior Faculty Award from the College of Engineering, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers Professor of the Year award".
