A key accomplishment of this two-year program has been the generation
of a white paper that outlines the scope of the Organization
for Minnesota Nanotechnology Initiatives - (OMNI), a research
center based on those areas where the U of M is best positioned
to become a world-class leader in this important field and where
the impact of a center on the future development of the State’s
industries will be optimized. This document was requested by the
Minnesota Planning Agency as a step toward galvanizing support from
the State government, industries, and business communities for an
aggressive nanoscience initiative in Minnesota. The white paper
was drafted by an interdisciplinary faculty committee headed by
Richard Kiehl and was based on data and faculty research profiles
compiled through MONALISA activities.
