Engineering Design Statement:
Students carry out five laboratories aimed at learning the use of the equipment, investigating simple circuits, and solving simple design problems. Students then carry out two major projects in the design of a Dolby-like noise reduction system and the design of an electronic combination lock. Students must work in groups to do these projects and the goal is to develop the best circuits which meet the requirements. Best is judged on many factors including cost, component count, manufacturability, maintenance, etc. Students compete in groups to develop the best design. It is made clear that there is no one correct answer and that many different approaches can be used.
